No my children have not been kidnapped. Lets get that straight right off the bat. We have a tradition in this family. Brad (Hubby) seizes a weekend, usually a long one in the summer and grabs a kid and they disappear, and send pictures and I have to figure out where they are and what they are up to. This past Friday he decided to grab Bebe our youngest and instead of going to the last day of school before Spring Break, they were off for a day downtown.
She has had a rough time of it this school year, a not so very understanding homeroom teacher, and our K through 8th grade schools, we have two in our district were rezoned and we now have an elementary school and middle school. Our school that she had attended for four years K-4 which is in our subdivision and walkable she would not be attending. Instead she would be bused to the other school. Her grade went from having 50 in the grade to 120, it was a huge change for her and many of her school friends, and it is still an issue.
So that all said, it was time for a “Mental Health Day“. We give one to each of our kids, and they can use it once in the whole school year. Bebe had already used hers, but we recognized she needed another one. So this is her day in pictures, have fun as you experience what her and Brad got up to.
Maybe this will become your tradition, while I was at work, I got constant updates as to what they were doing via picture texts. I felt like I was right there in some respects, and yet they got to share a great intimate day together, exploring the city. Brad got a kick out of taking her to attractions that we had never taken her to.
So back to the beginning, Brad had asked earlier in the week if Friday would be a good day to disappear, I got excited for two seconds…. Me???? YES!!! Any day would be a good day to disappear, 😉 No honey not you, me and Bebe, Oh I say. Well yes, it is the last day of school, I know they don’t have that much going on so go for it. The plan was set. We would make her do her homework the night before, get her up as usual and Brad would drive her to school as a treat as we know how much she dislikes the bus.
I was at work and got a call just as they were pulling out of the subdivision with Bebe stating that she wanted to wish me a good day before she went to school, they tried to pull a trick on me that he had actually dropped her off and I freaked as I had already called her in. I then hear the giggling and a very excited Bebe…. So the adventure began.
First up BREAKFAST, can we say yummy….
With full tummies they explore a mall near by with Art… Who imitates who?
Once in Chicago, they have to catch a different view…
After all of that, who isn’t up for MORE food? China Town, here they come…
To End out the day they met Grandma and went to a dinner show, Medieval Times….. Who loves horses?
This is one of our traditions, just disappear for a day and have fun. We all need to get away sometimes, kids and adults. Maybe you can make this a tradition in your family, or you have another fun thing you do, would love to hear them. Can’t wait to see where they go this summer….. I will share 🙂
